On Sunday, September 28th, the beaches of Spring Lake, NJ were alive with excitement as over 90 high school surfers from across the state gathered for the annual New Jersey High School Classic Surf Contest.
The event was high-energy from start to finish, with strong team rivalries fueling the competitive spirit. Student athletes represented their schools proudly, battling wave after wave not just for individual performance, but for the chance to win prize money that directly supports their High School Surf Teams.
Crowds of family, friends, and coaches lined the sand, cheering on their surfers as each heat brought dramatic finishes and stand-out performances. The Classic has become a highlight of the fall surf season in New Jersey, blending athleticism, school pride, and the unique camaraderie of the surf community.
By the end of the contest, winners left with more than prizes —they carried the pride of contributing to their team’s future, ensuring that high school surf programs continue to thrive across the state.
A huge thank-you goes out to Hurley and Barewires for their generous sponsorship and support of the event, and to the Town of Spring Lake for welcoming the contest and providing the perfect setting for a day of surfing and school spirit.
Spring Lake once again proved to be the ideal stage for this spirited competition, as the NJ surf community rallied around its next generation of surfers.
